"Available source material on Bartłomiej Pękiel - one of the finest old-Polish composers of the Baroque era - relates to his activities in Warsaw, Cracow and possibly Vienna. Initial references (1637) confirm his presence at the Royal Court of the Vasa kings in Warsaw, at the time a musical centre on a European scale that attracted renowned artists of various nationalities including a sizeable group of musicians from Italy. [...]
Of Bartłomiej Pękiel's oeuvre close to 30 works survive and we know from inventory references of several no longer extant titles. The core of his contribution consists of sacred vocal and vocal-instrumental works."
