"Human Love, Love Divine" wants to be the anthology of a musical format that was very rarely used in the first half of the 18th century: the soprano and tenor duo.
Taking into account the exclusive leading role played in Handel's time by castrato voice, there are only few cases where this composer and his contemporaries resorted to this genre, because duos were normally reserved for the heroes and heroines of the time, i.e. the mentioned castrati and female sopranos.
Nonetheless, of some interest are the sporadic cases where tenors and sopranos sang their love and desperation to each other, and it might not be farfetched to say that, on those occasions and given their unusual and extraordinary appearances in operas and oratorios, they were threated with special care by Handel.
